Fr. Joseph Bandanadam ("Ban-dan-AH-dum") is a diocesan priest of the Diocese of Nalgonda, India. Ever since his ordination in 1997, he has served in various capacities in parishes and institutions across India and in Fresno, California. He taught in the seminary and worked as the principal of the high school. Father Joseph's early ministry was shaped by powerful examples of devotion and sacrifice.
His pastoral experience is both deep and diverse, and we are blessed to welcome him into our spiritual family. He fondly remembers Sister Josephine, his "spiritual grandmother," who took him with her to rural villages to teach catechism. Her compassion deeply influenced his vocation. In some of the communities he served, Father Joseph worked alongside the DSS Sisters (Dena Sevana Sabha or "Servants of the Poor"). They prayed the rosary door-to-door during October and May. Their loving presence inspired two young women to join the religious order and one young man became a priest. In one of the Parishes (Somaram), where girls often left school by fifth grade to help support their families, Father Joseph witnessed the transformative power of education and the sacrifices it required. The DSS Nuns helped at the school and stitching center where young women learned sewing skills and were encouraged to continue their studies. Some graduated and others got jobs and settled in their life.
After many years in India, Father Joseph was sent to Fresno, where he saw how active lay participation cultivated vibrant parish life. It was a great experience that enriched his priestly life. It was an edifying and learning process that helped him grow both mentally and spiritually.
Among the most meaningful moments in his ministry was guiding three orphans; one joined the seminary, another became a nurse, and the third found work at an airport. Their stories remain close to his heart.
Father Joseph says it is his gratitude to God that inspires him to always give his best. He has been moved by the kindness of his brother priests and the warmth of our community. His heart remains full of joy and gratitude. His years of service and experience across cultures and communities will be a blessing for all and we warmly welcome him to the Queen of Peace family.
